Re: This pisses me off
Sat, October 16, 2004 - 12:40 PMIt's all because of the religious morons, in the religous right who still think that the world is flat. -

Re: This pisses me off
Sat, October 16, 2004 - 5:45 PMeh, i don't know... i don't think that just selling the book in the book/giftshops really constitutes backing the whole noah's ark theory, assuming that those are not the only pieces of information for sale around the area. unless they're selling it as the history of the grand canyon, then that's different. -
-
Re: This pisses me off
Sat, October 16, 2004 - 6:10 PMBut that's the point, they are selling it as the history of the Grand Canyon! The book "claims" the Grand Canyon was caused by Noah's flood!!!
This book is being sold in a government built and run store. It doesn't belong there. Let the religious organizations sell it if they want, but it is a another example where the loony-toons religious right is forcing their non-scientific theories on the general public.

Re: This pisses me off
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 3:08 PMbut is that the only book on the grand canyon that they're offering there? i don't think everything has to be so politically correct that that book cannot even be conceptually sold in a government run store, based on its religious views, unless that is being preached as the only idea of the creation of said canyon. otherwise, who cares if there are different theoretical books/pamphlets/what have you all in a government run store. -
-
Re: This pisses me off
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 3:48 PMPoliticaly Correct is just to wright off that your not trying to get it. If there is one book what is it going to stop more. And why aren't other other religions represented, and how many are we going to have. I don't want the government to start sanctioning other religions, it only means other views get pushed out. -

Re: This pisses me off
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 4:24 PMi just don't see it as something to really be made much of. is there a whole ideology about this grand canyon theory? are there other religious theories about its creation? mormons think it was joseph smith? muslims and jews think it was something else? are christians flocking to see the miracle of the great flood, now? what kinds of religious representation would you want there? it doesn't follow that because there is that book in this gift shop of the grand canyon, that it is soon to become a religious bookstore. -

Re: This pisses me off
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 5:26 PMWhat they are trying to pass off as a "scientific" explanation for the Grand Canyon is nothing more than propaganda for religious fundamentalists who believe that the world was created according to Genesis and Noah's flood shaped the world we live in.
It is religious dogma, not science. It is the same reason creationism is not taught in science classrooms. It violates the 1st amendment to the constitution.
Grrrr

Sun, October 17, 2004 - 6:53 PMGood one!!!
I think the last of the dinosaurs were on the ark, but they were all grilled up to feed to the carnivores. After all 40 days on a boat with a bunch of hungry lions ain't gonna be easy! -

Re: This pisses me off
Thu, October 21, 2004 - 8:36 PMScience and religion are totally different. Science is fact... religion is ferrie tale. Besides... the Armenians claim the arc is there (Mount Ararra) however it's spelled. According to the Armenians, they were the first christian nation as well. Wherever you live, you are going to have a localized conception of an old idea that was written by a person with an oppinionated point of view. There is no arc... there is no god... and eventualy you will be the subject of an archeaologists dig. -
