so what were people's thoughts on this debate last night? it got pretty vicious but there seemed to be a bit too much meandering from the actual questions of the mediator in lieu of responses or fact-giving on both sides. any thoughts on who was more persuasive or held themselves better? i thought that edwards was able to shut down cheney to where he gave no response a couple of times, but it seemed pretty back and forth and pretty aggressive from both sides.

Re: vice presidential debate
Wed, October 6, 2004 - 6:42 PMI didn't watch it, but from what I've heard, it was a victory on points for Edwards.

Wed, October 6, 2004 - 8:13 PMPrefer Edwards, but I think both of them did well frankly. I think it will simply convince each side that they are 'right'.

Thu, October 7, 2004 - 5:47 PMAs expected, Cheney was knee deep in double speak. I liked the way he kept answereing the questions that no one was asking. The highlight, for me, was when Edwards asked the moderator what the question was because Cheney answered with something from way outside of the scope of the issue. I think it was education talk when the question was about employment and jobs. Now, sure they can be relaited, but c'mon, Dick! Edwards had it all the way. I liked the Cheney's daughter conversation too. Nothing like denouncing gay marrages when your daughter is a known lesbian. Nice work, Dick!

Thu, October 7, 2004 - 5:55 PMOh, I think it rocked for Edwards! Cheney was lying up a storm. Including when he met Edwards first! It's amazing to me how he can keep a straight face so well... -

Re: vice presidential debate
Thu, October 7, 2004 - 6:53 PMI think Edwards did quite well, actually. I thought it was pretty cool toward the end when he realized the moderator had screwed up. Of course, his opponents are passing off his ability to maintain his cool as "typical trial-lawyer tactics"--mmmkay...
I thought the most hilarious part of the debate was when Tricky Dick mis-named Factcheck.org as Factcheck.com and advised people to go to the site to check out the truth on Halliburton. I read today that the owners of Factcheck.com re-directed all the traffic to an anti-Bush website. -

Re: vice presidential debate
Sat, October 9, 2004 - 1:17 PMnow, with the 2nd presidential debate... i don't think that either party really won out over this debate. the president and kerry were pretty much still just holding their own for those that were already supporters. any other thoughts? -

Re: vice presidential debate
Sat, October 9, 2004 - 2:27 PMYeah, I doubt that either Bush or Kerry converted anyone who was already decided. I do think, however, that there were a few instances where Bush found himself having to struggle to defend himself adequately, and it showed. It depends who you ask as to whether he succeeded or not. Of course, that's generally the case with an incumbent (more to defend, that is). Also, when one of the biggest issues you're flaunting (Iraq) also happens to be one of the biggest issues you have to defend (Iraq), it makes for some pretty interesting debating.
Also, I don't think either candidate had (for the most part) the kind of specific answers people were looking for, but then you're rarely ever going to get those in a debate setting. -

Mon, October 11, 2004 - 1:45 PMif u watch Bush's mouth closely u can tell he's lying as he tight-lipped tries to prevent a smirk from coming out.
I only watch the debates to learn how great bullshitters communicate with each other
